From the very beginning of our relationship, Mika demonstrated openness, respect and generosity towards us. Her attentiveness, her calm and her advice instilled in us a sense of confidence we were lacking. Her balanced approach, which puts science and spirituality in dialogue, was perfectly suited to our values! As soon as Mika officially joined our “team” until the birth of our son, she was a very available and responsive partner. During labour, she was able to choose the right moments to be affirmative or discreet, and acted in complementarity, and with much respect, to the medical staff. Her encouragement, her techniques, her ideas and her energy were very valuable assets for my spouse and me. Mika was an inspiring teammate whom undoubtedly contributed to the realization of my “wish” to give birth naturally, without an epidural, after having a c-section.

From the beginning of our baby journey up until bringing our daughter home we as first time parents were incredibly nervous, excited and full of questions. Having an amazing Doula like Mika Rock to help guide us through every step of the process has made the entire birth adventure enjoyable and worry free. From creating a birth plan tailored to our wants, being with us during labour for both physical and emotional support to an amazing follow up in our home to discuss any new concerns or questions – Mika’s warmth, knowledge, compassion and insights helped put us at complete ease and allowed us to fully enjoy the miracle at hand. As a bonus she’s also fully available before and after baby’s arrival to answer any question big or small. Before meeting Mika and experiencing all her know-how and fantastic energy my wife and I weren’t 100% sure exactly what a Doula does but now having gone through the birth with one at our side we can attest they are an essential part of the experience and will be recommending Mika to our friends and family.

My husband and I don’t have words to express our praise and admiration for Mika. Looking back, we cannot imagine having done it without her. 

From the very first meeting, Mika‘s support, kindness and knowledge were invaluablethrough a difficult pregnancy.

In the prenatal meetings, Mika helped us understand what to expect and coached us in making informed decisions. During the birth, Mika and my husband worked together to make an amazing support team. Mika, with her unshakeable calm and soothing voice, talked me through each contraction and reminded me to vocalize and not resist the pain. Together with her massage, this support enabled me to forgo pain medication. She also offered help with breastfeeding, making sure that my daughter and I got off to a great start and giving extremely useful advice about promoting milk production.

We never expected that the reality of our daughter’s birth and the beginning of our breastfeeding journey could be so close to everything that we hoped for! We also thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Mika‘s postnatal visit and now, almost two months later, we regularly refer to what she told us about parenting and child development.

To any family considering hiring a doula, say yes and hire Mika!

With our families out of town, we were looking for the extra support -someone to ask questions with a different perspective and knowledge base. Ultimately, someone to help us manage our fear of the unknown.  

Mika was amazing, she was there to provide the comfort and confidence to help us follow through with our hope for a natural, unmedicated birth. She helped me relax and focus at the critical moments, while still giving privacy for my husband and I to experience this special event together.

We decided to work with Mika for her presence of mind and calm, steady demeanour. She is conscientious and a good listener. She helped me confront my anxieties concerning pregnancy, the birth process and adjusting to life postpartum. She checked in at just the right times. She also had many useful resources – what I could read, exercises to prepare and references.

During the big day, she was a phone call away to reassure us both before we went to the hospital. She set up a calm environment in the delivery room with aromatherapy, offered tips to help us cope. There were some minor complications during the labor which I was in no condition to grasp in the moment, so it was also useful to hear later her understanding of what passed. She stayed just long enough to help us start breastfeeding before leaving us to bond with our beautiful new baby girl!

Mika was the peace and patience that I needed during pregnancy, labour & delivery. 

When my baby was breech, with her expertise, Mika gave me all the tools to help baby turn, while staying calm and confident that baby’s birth was going to be perfect no matter how she came. During labour, Mika was on the ball, checking in as I went through early labour at home. At the hospital she helped to keep the atmosphere calm for me. When the doctor suggested certain interventions (breaking my waters and an episiotomy), Mika helped my husband and me weigh the options and make educated decisions that were best for us. She even helped us stick to our birth plan (which I had completely forgotten about during labour), which allowed for me to feel my daughter’s head crowning during delivery. Postpartum, Mika was reassuring as I struggled with initiating breastfeeding. She was full of resources and helped me find a lactation consultant, which was a huge help in the early days of breastfeeding. Needless to say, I can’t imagine my birth & early postnatal experience without Mika. She was a blessing to both my husband and me!

Mika is THE doula you want at your birth.  She is knowledgeable, warm and a constant grounding presence. I had a very painful 50-hour-long labor and Mika accompanied my partner and I throughout the whole process, helping me cope with the pain and helping my husband cope with my distress. She helped me feel strong and instil confidence in me when I felt I could no longer do it.  When it came to pushing, she was by my side, holding my hand and coaching me to breath in a very particular way that helped the labor progress efficiently.  She has so many tools and resources to draw from.Two months later, we keep saying, “we don’t know how we would have done it without her”
